Weekly Wrap Up (Jun. 2nd, 2025 - Jun. 8th, 2025)
music from across the global that caught my attention last week
What’s going on y’all? Hope everyones past week was muy bueno. Really thought we might get a more low key release schedule this time around haha… more on that later *cough* mor…on *cough*. First off however, as you’ve probably noticed by now I did not post that Latin music deep dive last week like I said I would cause uhh, well I didn’t it finish it lmao. I’ve honestly gotta cut it down some I think; rn it’s got ~30 things and that feels just a tad too long- although I’m having a reeal hard time figuring out which ones’ll get the axe. I just love em all so much! Lol anyways, don’t worry I’ll figure it out and the goal is to get it up by Wednesday or Thursday morning so be on the lookout. It’ll have everything from deep house to traditional folk to pop to nu jazz to hardcore rap to indie rock to punk to club music— I’m excited for you guys to check it out.
While I was busy overthinking that list however, the release schedule for this week hit me with a, “BOY you dumb!” and cranked out possibly the best pop album AND the best baile funk album of the year so far, on the same fucking day no less. So yeah, we got some stuff to get through…
“Weekly Wrap Up” is a series dropping every Monday highlighting some of my favorite music released over the past seven days. I usually try to keep it to ~10 entries; and it includes everything from new albums to random singles off SoundCloud to Bandcamp only compilations to maybe a Boiler Room performance on YouTube. The idea is just for this to be a small, organized collection with stuff like links and descriptors / tags (and maybe a little write up too, who knows?) so it’s easy to navigate and decide to what to check out, etc. It’s not fully comprehensive nor will it include big releases; exceptions obviously. Simply cool music from around the world I enjoyed throughout the past week. It’ll probably evolve more over time as I’m just getting back into it, but this is what I’m rolling with for now. Hope you enjoy!

Ok so a couple things:
If you’d told me 18 months ago I’d be sitting here, writing about how the new ADDISON RAE project might be the best mainstream pop album of the year (and how you should listen to it if that’s your thing), there’s no fucking way I woulda believed you. Like at all aha. I will say though, I had to throw my hand up n say I was wrong about the Haliburton & Pacers the other day so, you know what? Fuck it. I was wrong about you Addison. Good fucking job.
Those interludes man ! Ohhh those interludes…. Addison I’ma need that slow, emotional, auto-tuned out album next please girlie. How you gon throw those in there just to tease us like that?? Smh #ReleaseTheSlowCut
The bones are there for an absolutely phenomenal remix album too tbh; I’m talking a True Remix Album— not just throw a Charli verse on one of em n call it a day Remix Album. I’m talking a ‘Boys Noize Club Edit’; or how boutta ‘beansclub Sextrance Bootleg’? The ‘KAVARI EAR DAMAGE MIX’ would go hard as hell too to be honest. Uhh Sega Bodega maybe? Or umru?? I already know A. G. Cook probably would fucking kill it. Oooo sheeeeit, now that I’m brainstorming like this I need that ‘Himera Dream Trance Remix’ in my life ASAP. caro♡ too. Also, I know she already did Arcamarine, but Addison should go get like Safety Trance to produce another and then throw Six Sex and Taichu or Isabella Lovestory on it for a neoperreo banger (hmmm you may be able to read more about them in a few days, who knows tho?). There’s just so much potential in this shit sorry haha. Give me all your AR techno and house remixes !!!

Throwing it allll the way back to my first ever post on here (oh my god you can see how much it’s changed already LMAO), DJ LL make his second appearance with the release of his full debut and fucking hell is this thing… *chefs kiss* …aaaamazing. Ranging between loud and really fucking loud, Só Mais um Silva solidifies LL as one of my favorite DJ’s in the entire scene as he dials up the energy to an 11. This shit is so much fun bro.
Looks like we’ve got a new number one baile project for 2025 ladies n gentlemen (psst… someone go get d.silvestre, that’s his cue…)

The Queen is BACK lets fucking gooooooooooooo. Ethel really is goated man, gaht dayum her voice his beautiful. I remember it seeming like she could have blown ‘blown’ up (on a mainstream level) earlier this year but almost actively chose not to really? She truly is da best man aha. Like I can’t recall why exactly (it might have been a clip of one of her songs was doing the rounds on TikTok or something), but at the back end of last year she was starting to pick up popularity amongst a broader audience and all she needed to do to ‘take off’, so-to-speak, was to just keep it up. Release more of the same music, drop the next album , do the late night TV performance, show up to a Pitchfork interview, blah blah blah, you’ve seen it a million times before . You know the drill.
Well umm, Ethel did NOT do that ahahah. For starters, the project she’d been teasing during that time + building hype around ended up being called Perverts (LMAO). And secondly, I stg, sonically this shit is one of the most ‘anti-pop’ albums I’ve ever listened to. It’s so fucking gloomy and overwhelmingly ominous; I mean more than half the tracklist is made up of drone or dark ambient songs that go on for like 10 plus minutes ffs; it’s so gooood but something tells me the Urban Outfitters down the street ain’t tryna play that over the loudspeakers ahah.
Now she’s going back to her roots though baby! As ‘Nettles’ is the first single for the upcoming album, Willoughby Tucker, I’ll Always Love You; which serves as the follow up to her (incredible) debut, Preacher’s Daughter. Fun fact btw: Ethel actually tracked down the original synths used by composer Angelo Badalamenti to record Twins Peaks’ classic theme song b/c she loves them *that* much & wanted to use em for a song (oh yeah. she also does the vocals, and plays the banjo; and the acoustic, bass and electric guitars. go off queen!).

I’ve kinda spoken before about how certain releases are so dreamy they’ll make you feel like you’re in a sort of blissful dream, just peacefully floating above your house as the ground begins to dissolve into watercolor and it feels like the breeze knows your name. Yeahhhhhhh, you can maybe forget allat cause those things I talked about before ain’t got shit on this lmao.
On Faith, Purelink creates an atmosphere so soothingly meditative & lush I genuinely feel like you could throw this on during pre-school nap time and it’d go hard as hell (in a serene and pleasant kinda way ya feel me).
SESH - SESHVA04

“Oh shit I gotta go get Miss Mazzy… SESH are back (!!)… it's time for another dance party baby.”
(walks over to cat tree and wakes her from her nap as she makes the lil cat activation noise)
“Mazz…” (gently shakes her) “Mazz wake up… SESH just dropped Volume 4.” (shakes her again) “You promised me you’d have another dance party Miss Kitty. C’monn….” (picks her up) “….lets goooo Miss Kitty”
(Mazzy meows back at me) “Yep, I can’t wait Dad. Let’s go!*”
