Weekly Wrap Up (Jun. 30th, 2025 - Jul. 6th, 2025)
music from across the global that caught my attention last week
Hey everybody.
So I’m uhh… I’m not really sure how to start this off to be honest with y’all; to say it’s been a bit of up and down week is kind of an understatement lol. My brains a bit scrambled so I apologize in advance if this one feels slightly disjointed or has an odd tone throughout. I’m still editing some here n there to make it flow as smoothly as possible. Music wise it was a fucking incredible week, I can’t complain whatsoever— prolly top three outta the entire year so far all things considered. There. was. just. so. much. shit. Two of my most anticipated albums *both* released, and *both* lived up to and exceed my expectations; plus there were a coupla others pretty high up that list too that also dropped, throw in a handful of great singles on top and bam— it was an amazing week right? Ummm, wellll…. no. Not really. Unfortunately last week was the type to remind you just how trivial stuff like new music and ‘Weekly Wrap Ups’ can be in the grand scheme of things.
If you hadn't picked up on it yet, or don’t know me IRL, I’m a die hard Liverpool FC supporter and have been for a little over a decade now. This past week one of the players, along with his brother, tragically passed away in a car accident along the Spanish coast. I won’t go into the details or eulogize too much, as it’s still pretty fresh and there are people who’re much better with their words than me who’ve have already said an abundance of beautiful & touching things on the situation (Arne Slot, Ruben Neves and Jose Mourinho are just some of the ones that’ve stuck with me the most off the top of my head); but I still wanted to take this space to say thank you to Diogo from the bottom of my heart for everything he’s done for me, for the club, and for all the amazing memories he’s given me that’ll stick around for life. And for that dumb little celebration hah. Oh my goodness that celebration ahaha— I’m gonna nearly tear up every time I see that thing from now on aren’t I lol.
There is something I need to confess though to be honest. If you do know actually know me and happened to’ve talked to me about last season, you’ll also know I was pretty critical of Jota. Ok that’s a lie— I was very critical. Like I wanted him sold ASAP type critical. *deep regretful sigh* I’m so dumb sometimes man. I’m so sorry Diogo, I miss you :’(( This guy was an absolutely brilliant footballer on the pitch (I’ll never forget the way he’d seemingly like rumble, bumble, stumble his way into goals all the time lol. Oh Diogo *sad sigh*), never complained and was always an exemplary teammate; but most importantly of all he was an unbelievably good person and family man off the pitch as well. From the work he did promoting and advocating for the women’s game to being the number one ranked FIFA player in the world, I’m not sure there’ll ever be another footballer quite like him. He was such a unique and humble down-to-earth guy, this one’s gonna hurt for a really long time. I mean ffs he’d be up till like 2AM streaming himself going 30-0 on FUT the night before a crucial Premier League game and then he’d go out and score the match winner. Truly one of a kind.
To kinda paraphrase what Slot said in his statement, when the time comes we’ll celebrate Diogo properly— honoring his achievements on the field and all the joy that brought to so many peoples lives. We’ll sing his song for the entire world to hear and proudly shout his name from metaphorical mountaintops. But for now my thoughts are with his entire extended family, especially his parents and wife & kids, as we remember the extraordinary human being he was and mourn this heartbreaking loss. His memory will live on forever.
Rest In Peace Diogo & André. You’ll Never Walk Alone <3
“Weekly Wrap Up” is a series dropping every Monday highlighting some of my favorite music released over the past seven days. I usually try to keep it to ~10 entries; and it includes everything from new albums to random singles off SoundCloud to Bandcamp only compilations to maybe a Boiler Room performance on YouTube. The idea is just for this to be a small, organized collection with stuff like links and descriptors / tags (and maybe a little write up too, who knows?) so it’s easy to navigate and decide to what to check out, etc. It’s not fully comprehensive nor will it include big releases; exceptions obviously. Simply cool music from around the world I enjoyed throughout the past week. It’ll probably evolve more over time as I’m just getting back into it, but this is what I’m rolling with for now. Hope you enjoy!

There’s a write-up I’m ~80% done with that’ll prolly never see the light of day covering, in my humble opinion, some of the more slept on & under the radar releases from 2024— with the main reason for me not putting it out anymore being that I’ve actually gotten to talk about most of em (or at least the artist) at some point or another; abel is an exception. I have just been informed I actually have (briefly) talked about abel before ahah, but alas…. the rest of my point till stands lol.
His music is an intoxicating combination of new age internet SoundCloud rap mixed with a glitchy post industrial sound along with a heavy dose of auto-tune and electro / EDM influences. Oooooowweeee baby— I LOVE it so fucking much. abel’s LP from last year, 0010, was absolutely fantastic and I’m still obsessed with its distinct sound thirteen months later. It’s just so well produced man. Like the beats are so fucking clean & glittery, yet still maintain that distorted, hard hitting feel. abel is an absolute genius behind the boards.
Following scary movie, a short but V good EP released last December, -6 is abel’s fist full length effort since that last masterpiece of an album. On the whole it sounds a bit less like someone cooly rap singing over the sounds of a futuristic computer booting up and is more in line with the rage influenced vibe that’s so prevalent in rap today. So while that’s no entirely my thing, the rage sound is so popular for a reason therefor I got fingers crossed it’ll still bring him the shine his music rightfully deserves. At the end of the day I don’t think -6 quite reaches the same heights as its predecessor, but abel still gives us another solid af new school French rap album to sink our teeth into.

Did Amaarae just drop the most interesting pop song of the year?? (very Step Brothers ‘did we just become best friends?!?’ voice). OooOoo I just love the bit of tension between the silky, almost zouk-esque beat up against the raw urgency & aggressive pulse of that gqom bassline.
Yeahhhh this might be my song of the summer so far.

Kent Loon is another favorite trap artist of mine who I feel’s been criminally slept on for bout a decade now despite releasing a few great mixtapes; including last years Swamp Water which had features from Father, Valee, Danny Towers & more. On top of that his work with fellow Floridian Chester Watson is consistently top fucking notch, and frequently garners praise online. I can’t lie tho, the hipster in me is kinda glad he hasn’t blown up yet— don’t have to try n cut some 21 Savage or Lil Baby verse off a his new songs so that’s nice. Anyways one of the things that stands out to me the most about KL’s music is honestly how nicely his older work has aged, as the same can’t be said for a lot of similar stuff released around that same time period *cough* *cough* smokepurpplilpump *cough*; and to this day it still manages to find its way onto my rotation (side note: this music video single handedly made me buy go out n buy BAPE trucker’s hat ahahh smh. lol what a time man, what a time…).
For ‘Literal’, Kent brings it back to where it all began and joins forces with Colombian rapper, GeezyDee, and producer, Jn Paul, to create this hard hitting collab that has me wishing for a duo-lingo Kent Loon album in my life ASAP.

Coincidences man lol.
Above in abel’s entry I mentioned the rough draft for a post I’m (half) working on about some of the projects from last year I fucked + felt didn’t get the love they fully deserved; with 0010 being the example used. WELP. I’m guessing you probably won’t be very surprised to learn Humlides, Vol. 2 (Lado A) and (Lado B) were also on that list lmao.

Including 6 in the past 6 weeks alone…. you will take your weekly mandated serving of Lost Frog and you will like it!! Jokes aside I am absolutely loving this run right now. Keep it up guys!

A couple years ago (holy shit I guess it’s already been 5 yrs at this point lol) RAMIREZ and Rocci put out their collab album, THA PLAYA$ MANUEL, and it kinda blew me away with how strong it was. There’s just something about West Coast rap when the sun is out man…. it fucking hits. Those g-funk raps and catchy hooks mixed with Rocci’s super laid back & relaxing brand of r&b / indietronica blended together for an utterly perfect summer album.
Tbh (thankfully) this is more of the same as the duo manages to recapture most of what made the first great; and to be honest that’s exactly what was needed. They didn’t need to try n switch it up or evolve the formula really— just give us more, and they’ve executed that to perfection.
P.S. Thank god RAMIREZ is no longer with G*59 man
P.P.S. Can someone please get Rocci to release more solo music ffs !!! This dudes only been on like 20 songs over the past 6 YEARSS ! And all of em are fire ! Arrghh Rocciiiiii !!!! Release! More! Music!! I mean just listen to this !!! Ahhhhh it’s sooo good!
